Organization Chart
The Organization Chart gives you a visual map of your company — who reports to whom, how departments and teams are arranged, and where each person fits. You'll find it on the Employees page, at **/company/employees/org-chart**.
What You Can Do
- See your company structure as an interactive chart
- Switch between hierarchy, department, and team views
- Search for a person and zoom in on them
- Expand, collapse, and zoom the chart for easier reading
- Manage departments and teams, and add new employees (with the right permissions)
Switching Between Employees Views
The Employees area has two ways to look at your people:
- Table — A searchable, filterable list of employees.
- Org chart — The visual structure described here.
Use the Table and Org chart toggle buttons at the top of the page to switch between them.
Chart Views
Use the Select view dropdown to change how the chart is organized:
- By hierarchy — Shows reporting lines: managers at the top with their direct reports beneath them. Each manager card shows a count of how many reports they have.
- By departments — Groups employees by the department they belong to.
- By teams — Groups employees by their team.
Employees without an assigned office, department, or team are grouped under clear labels (for example, "No team assigned"), so no one is left off the chart.
Reading the Chart
The chart uses visual cues to highlight important states:
- A probation period indicator marks employees who are still in their probation period.
- A termination process indicator marks employees who are leaving.
Each card shows the person's name, photo, and job title. If a job title is missing, the card notes that too.
Navigating the Chart
A control panel in the corner of the chart helps you find your way around:
- Find me — Jumps the chart to your own card.
- Expand all reports — Opens every branch so the whole structure is visible.
- Collapse all reports — Closes the branches for a cleaner, top-level view.
- Zoom — Zoom in and out, or pick a preset zoom level (100%, 50%, or 20%) from the dropdown.
You can also search by first name, last name, or work email to quickly locate someone in a large organization.
Managing Structure (Managers & Admins)
If you have permission to add employees, you'll see extra actions at the top of the page:
- Departments & Teams — Open a panel to create and manage your company's departments and teams, including assigning colors used in the chart. (If no offices exist yet, Marmend prompts you to set one up first.)
- New employee — Add a new person to the company directly from the org chart.
Note: These management actions are only shown to roles that can add employees (such as Owners, Admins, and HR). Other roles see the chart as a read-only view.
