Marmend Call
Marmend Call is a built-in video calling feature with real-time transcription. It lets you conduct interviews, team meetings, and calls directly within Marmend — with live, per-speaker transcripts generated automatically.
Overview
With Marmend Call you can:
- Start a video call from within Marmend
- Share a link so guests can join without a Marmend account
- See a live transcript that identifies each speaker by name
- Save the transcript to your meeting record for future reference
Marmend Call uses LiveKit for high-quality video and Whisper AI for accurate speech recognition.
Starting a Call
As an Authenticated User
- Navigate to the Call section or use a direct call link (
/call/room-id) - Your camera and microphone activate automatically
- A share link is displayed — copy it and send to participants
- The transcript panel appears on the right side of the screen
Controls
During a call you have access to:
- Mute/Unmute — Toggle your microphone
- Camera On/Off — Toggle your camera
- Transcript Panel — Show or hide the live transcript sidebar
- Leave — End your participation in the call
Connection Status
A status indicator in the call shows your connection state:
- Green — Connected and stable
- Yellow — Connecting or reconnecting
- Gray — Disconnected
Inviting Guests
Guests can join your call without a Marmend account:
- Copy the share link shown during the call (format:
https://yourcompany.marmend.store/meet/room-id) - Send it to your guest via email, chat, or any messaging tool
- The guest opens the link and enters their name
- They click "Join" to enter the call
Guests see a notice that the meeting may be recorded and transcribed. They have access to basic call controls (mute, camera, leave) but do not see the transcript panel.
Live Transcription
How It Works
Marmend Call transcribes speech in real-time using AI:
- Each participant's audio is streamed separately to the transcription service
- The AI recognizes speech and identifies who is speaking
- Transcript segments appear in the sidebar panel within seconds
- Each segment shows the speaker's name, timestamp, and text
Speaker Identification
The transcript automatically identifies speakers by their names:
- Authenticated users — Their Marmend display name is used
- Guests — The name they entered when joining is used
- Each speaker is assigned a unique color for easy visual distinction
Transcript Panel
The transcript panel on the right side of the call screen shows:
- Speaker name (color-coded)
- Timestamp for each segment
- Transcribed text
- Auto-scrolls as new segments arrive
You can toggle the transcript panel on or off using the transcript button in the call controls.
After the Call
When you leave the call, the transcript is automatically saved to the meeting record. The saved transcript includes:
- All spoken segments with timestamps
- Speaker names for each segment
- A list of all speakers who participated
You can review the transcript later from the meeting details page.
Requirements
- Your administrator must enable the Marmend Call feature for your organization
- A modern browser with camera and microphone access (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari)
- A stable internet connection for best video and transcription quality
Tips & Best Practices
- Share the guest link before the meeting starts so participants can join on time
- Speak clearly for the best transcription accuracy
- Check your microphone before starting — the transcription works best with a clear audio signal
- Use headphones to prevent echo and improve audio quality for both video and transcription
- The transcript is most accurate when one person speaks at a time
- Toggle the transcript off if you want a distraction-free call experience — the transcript still records in the background
