AI Assistant Connector (Claude & ChatGPT)

Connect Marmend to your AI assistant and ask questions about your workspace in plain language — right from Claude or ChatGPT, without switching tabs.

Example: "How many candidates are in the interview stage for the Berlin backend vacancy?" — answered directly in Claude, using live data from your Marmend workspace.

What you can do

Once connected, your AI assistant can read data from your workspace:

Candidates — profiles, pipeline stages, vacancy matches
Vacancies — job postings, their status and statistics
Employees — team members, departments, time off, equipment
Meetings — bookings and calendar events
Smart people search — find candidates or employees by meaning, e.g. "senior Elixir engineer in Berlin"

Current people by default. When you ask about employees, the assistant answers about your current team — people who have left are not counted in headcounts or lists unless you ask for them explicitly (for example, "including people who left" or "how many employees left this year"). The same applies to archived candidates and closed vacancies.

With the optional action permissions (see below), the assistant can also do things for you:

Schedule meetings — "Book a 45-minute sync with John tomorrow at 10:00" creates the calendar event with you as the organizer
Manage booking types — create, edit, or delete the interview/booking templates your team offers (admins only)
Manage your organization — create or remove teams and departments, assign employees to them (admins only)
Manage employee lifecycle — offboard (terminate), archive, or reinstate an employee (admins only). This locks or restores the person's account, so it always asks you to confirm first.

Reading is always the default. Action permissions are separate, clearly labeled on the approval screen, and you can connect without them.

How actions stay safe

You approve them at connection time. Action permissions are opt-in — if you don't grant them, the assistant physically cannot change anything.
The assistant asks before acting. Claude and ChatGPT show you a confirmation prompt before running any action.
You always act as yourself. Meetings the assistant schedules have you as the organizer — it cannot act on someone else's behalf. It also cannot offboard or archive your own account.
Ambiguity stops the action. If you say "invite John" and two Johns work at your company, the assistant gets the list of matches and asks you which one — nothing is created until it's clear.
You're told about anything skipped. If an attendee name couldn't be matched to a person, the meeting confirmation says so explicitly.
Every action is recorded. Each action is logged with who did it, when, and with which permissions — your administrator can review the trail.

Before you start

The connector must be enabled for your organization. If it isn't, you will see a "not enabled" message after connecting — ask your workspace administrator or Marmend support.
Know your workspace name — the part before .marmend.com in your Marmend address (for example, acme if you sign in at acme.marmend.com).
What you can access through the assistant matches your role in Marmend (see "Permissions" below).

Connect Claude (claude.ai or Claude Desktop)

Open Settings → Connectors in Claude.
Choose Add custom connector and enter: https://app.marmend.com/mcp
Claude opens a Marmend page in your browser. Enter your workspace name and press Continue. (If you're already signed in to Marmend in this browser on that address, this step may be skipped and you'll land directly on the access screen.)
Sign in to your workspace if you aren't already.
Review the access screen: it shows which application is asking and exactly what it will be able to read — and, separately, which actions it will be allowed to perform. Press Allow access.
You're back in Claude — the Marmend tools are now available in your conversations.

Connect Claude Code (terminal)

claude mcp add --transport http marmend https://app.marmend.com/mcp

Then run /mcp inside Claude Code and follow the login link — the same workspace + consent flow as above.

Connect ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add connector.
Enter the URL https://app.marmend.com/mcp.
Complete the same workspace + sign-in + approval flow as for Claude.

Marmend also works as a Deep Research source: when you run a Deep Research task, select Marmend as a source and ChatGPT will search your workspace and cite links back to your Marmend records.

Permissions — what the assistant can see and do

During approval you'll see the list of permissions being granted. They can never exceed what your Marmend role allows:

Anything above your role is shown as "Not available for your role" on the approval screen and is never granted. If your role changes later, the connection's access adjusts automatically — no need to reconnect. (For example, an admin who is demoted loses the organization-management and employee-management actions immediately.)

All data stays inside your own workspace: the connection can never see other companies' data.

Connected before an action existed? A connection only has the permissions you approved when you made it. To let the assistant use a newer action — for example scheduling meetings, managing your organization, or the employee terminate/archive/reinstate action — remove the connector in Claude/ChatGPT and connect again. The new approval screen will include the additional permissions.

Disconnecting

In Marmend: open Settings → AI assistants in your workspace to see every assistant connected to your account — with its permissions and last activity — and press Disconnect. Owners and admins also see (and can disconnect) every connection in the workspace.
In the AI app: remove the connector in Claude/ChatGPT settings — the connection is revoked on the Marmend side at the same moment.
Access also expires automatically after 90 days without use.

Troubleshooting

Problem	What it means	What to do

"Insufficient scope for tool" when asking for an action	Your connection doesn't include that action permission — either it predates the action, or your role doesn't allow it	Reconnect to grant the new permissions; managing your organization or employees needs an Owner/Admin role
"Semantic search is not enabled for this workspace"	The smart people search needs a one-time setup for your workspace	Ask Marmend support to enable it — the other tools still work
